Chapter 13

Transitions  Transitions are not something I have ever been good at.  I really enjoyed reading about the correct how-to of transitions.  I find that I am almost too abrupt when doing transitions.  The readings gave me great ideas on how to better edit and allow my points to sneak up on viewers, not smack them in the face. Time Line  Adding clips to a timeline for me was hard to manage.  I tried to piece it all together in my head.   However, the book made a great point that it's like an automobile assembly. Like a set of instructions to assemble to video.  Clip by clip planned and thought out.

Magnetic Recording / Recording History  I understand how the following may age me.  I was fascinated by how recording used to be.  For me, I am so used to current technology I had no idea what the technology used to look like.  The first experience I had with videotaping was on a Nikon Camera that also took pictures.  It was really cool for me to see the evolution of technology. Recording formats Once again I didn't realize how much I overlooked the leaps technology has made.  I completely forgot all the methods in which we went through.  In order to get the level of technology we are currently in we went through many methods.  First VR tape, then CDs, and now we are at files.  What could possibly be next?

Nature of sound and flow Sound is something you take you don't notice in videos and shows.  When creating content I never realized just how important sound is.  You can convey so many emotions to your audience.  As well as lead them to conclusions that may or may not be true.  Something like a scary sound scene may lead to someone jumping out. Signal Flows Just as the screen may transition through a movie to tell a story.  Sound can and does the same.  It can show the actors emotions through the movie. Or it can help transition a good day with upbeat music.  Then when things begin to get worse sad music comes into play.
